Certificate of Achievement (Transcripted): Engineering Mechanical Drafting and Design
Below is a sample academic plan that shows you how you can complete your Certificate in a timely manner. Your path may look different depending on your circumstances?for example, if you attend part-time, choose to take Intersession or Summer courses, or have earned prior credit (Credit for Prior Learning, Dual Enrollment, Transfer Credit). You are required to meet with a counselor to set up a comprehensive education plan that is tailored to your individual circumstances and goals.
This program prepares students for employment as a MECHANICAL ENGINEERING DRAFTER or DESIGNER. Mechanical drafters use MCAD (mechanical computer-aided drafting/design) software to create solid models and then detailed technical drawings of machinery or mechanical devices produced by engineers. Mechanical drafters must be proficient in parametric MCAD software and have knowledge of current industry drafting practices. Designers are typically drafters with additional industry experience and training. Designers take generic designs from engineers and add detail to them (e.g., material and fastener selection) using MCAD. Employment is primarily in private industries such as aerospace, biomedical, industrial, and other manufacturing industries.
Transfer engineering students may benefit from this program as it teaches essential ENGINEER job skills that may not be taught at the university. Other courses in this program may transfer to the university.
apply the rules of orthographic projection to create multi-view drawings
produce industry-standard models and engineering drawings.
effectively use CAD software to produce models and drawings
