Certificate of Achievement (Transcripted): Infant and Toddler Education and Development

Below is a sample academic plan that shows you how you can complete your Certificate in a timely manner. Your path may look different depending on your circumstances?for example, if you attend part-time, choose to take Intersession or Summer courses, or have earned prior credit (Credit for Prior Learning, Dual Enrollment, Transfer Credit). You are required to meet with a counselor to set up a comprehensive education plan that is tailored to your individual circumstances and goals.

The Infant and Toddler Education and Development Certificate provides students with a specialized focus on the strengths and needs of infants and toddlers.  Students will study the comprehensive development of the young children, birth to three years focusing on understanding current brain research and best caregiving practices.  

Completion of this certificate meets the Child Development and Education course requirements for the California Child Development Associate Teacher Permit, which is used in federal and state early childhood programs and licensing regulations for private and faith-based programs.  Please contact a Child Development Permit advisor for information regarding the general education unit requirements and the work experience requirements.  

Demonstrate skill and mastery of child development theories and proficiency in application in a simulated, real infant/toddler setting or scenario.

Develop a portfolio of developmentally appropriate activities, programming, and assessment strategies for infants and toddlers in the cognitive, psychosocial, and biosocial domains.
