Below is a sample academic plan that shows you how you can complete your Certificate in a timely manner. The associate degree and certificate in international business is designed to provide students and business practitioners, including those already involved in International Business, with practical “hands’ on” exposure to the world of international business.

Classes focus on businesses that import and export. Students learn the fundamentals of international business, culture, marketing, finance, law and logistics. Different countries and cultures are explored. Specialized topic areas (for example, marketing, financing, law and logistics) are a sequence of short classes that should be taken in order. The program prepares students to take the NASBITE Certified Global Business (CGBP) Credential Exam

The goal of the International Business certificate program is to prepare students for careers in the global trade marketplace by combining a basic academic foundation in import,and export global logistics, international management, international marketing and regional business studies combined with the benefit of experiential learning by using practical tools in use by industry and commerce.

      Discover how businesses, while strategizing their international expansion, consider the importance of cultural inclusivity, local market sensitivities, and equitable management practices. Explore international marketing strategies, cross-border finance mechanisms, international standards, and efficient logistics and supply chain operations. Recognize and respect varied business practices and norms. Learn about the nuances involved in product development, international distribution, and sales strategies that are responsive to the diverse needs and preferences of international consumers.

        Global Supply Chain and Logistics
        Learn how to respond to international trade inquiries, understand international trade terms of sale for import and export, and how to calculate landed costs. Learn how to create and issue import and export documents used in selling or buying products globally. Includes the creation and use of actual documents used in global trade. Learn how to ship products internationally and develop a transportation strategy. Learn about transportation terminology, the role of the freight forwarder, transportation documentation, freight cost calculations, major ports of the world, and distribution methods. Create documents for product inspection, health/agricultural registrations, and hazardous materials shipments. Utilize actual documents, software, and resources necessary to effectively complete documentation required for international trade. Get introduced to supply chain management and inventory control.

              Importing: Global Sourcing and Markets
              This course provides a comprehensive guide to import operations and global sourcing, covering the essential procedures, regulatory requirements, and e-commerce strategies for managing an importing business. Students will learn how to evaluate international suppliers, manage logistics and supply chain costs, and comply with import regulations and record keeping requirements. The course also emphasizes cost-effective importing operations, including how to optimize shipping and manage international payments. Additionally, the course will cover e-commerce strategies, the course prepares students to effectively import and sell goods in global and digital marketplaces. By the end of the course, students will have practical knowledge to start or manage an importing business.

                Global Commerce and Management
                This course provides a comprehensive overview of global commerce, focusing on the creation and management of international business contracts, financial mechanisms, and the regulatory frameworks that govern international distribution. Students will learn about international limited liability companies, foreign direct investment, and how global trade agreements such as NAFTA/USMCA, GATT, and the EU affect businesses. The course also explores management in varying legal environments and U.S. export regulations. Emphasis will be placed on using the U.N. Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods and managing cross-border transactions. Through this course, students will gain insight into how countries cooperate to form global markets and regulate international trade. (Same as PARA 117, Global Commerce and Management)

                  Doing Business in Latin America and Asia
                  This course offers an in-depth exploration of the opportunities and challenges of conducting business in Latin America and Asia. Students will gain a comprehensive understanding of the cultural, linguistic, legal, and structural differences that influence business practices in these regions. This course explores approaches that companies use to compare unique competitive advantages that exist in the regional markets within Latin America to that of the growing globalization of markets within Asia-Pacific regions. The main themes of this subject cover economics, culture, governance, trade, business, strategy and marketing.
